An adventure Muse of mine told me once that “adventure” is a French word that means, “crummy planning.”
The explorers and pioneers, the sailors and soldiers of old, whose lives we now see as the epitome of adventure – they went out of their way to NEVER have an adventure because to them, adventure was synonymous with plans gone painfully or fatally awry.
But nowadays people crave adventure. Modern man is plagued by inactivity, by the double-edged sword of technology, and by the tedium of specialization and routine in the workplace. People seek adventure as a way to release and reconnect with the real world.
Another friend put it this way, “When we say that we’re going to go on an adventure, what we are saying is that we are going to go out of our way to have some fun but we’re not exactly sure how or when the fun is going to happen!” So basically,
ADVENTURE = FUN + NOVELTY + CHALLENGE
There are a lot of ways that you can aim for that fun, novelty, and challenge. Check out some of the ways The Roaming Parkers seek adventure!
