You know how, after several years of marriage, two people will become so close that they finish each other’s stories? They have both lived the same experiences for so long that they have each told the other all the jokes and amusing anecdotes they know – two or three times!
“Say, have I told you about the time…”
“Yep, three times now!”
“What about when I…”
“Yep, I was there.”
“Hey! I read this thing the other day…”
“I gave you the magazine …”
When Elise and I started falling into this routine a few years ago, she eventually told me, “You need to get kidnapped by aliens or something just so you’ll have a new story to tell.”
And she was right!
I think that not only do most couples grow together into this type of relationship, but most couples are in need of being kidnapped by aliens just so they’ll have fresh stories to tell.
That’s a big part of why we started RoamingParkers.com and why we want to move towards more of a kidnapped-by-aliens lifestyle – because we think it makes us a better husband and a better wife and better parents – just plain better people.
I think that’s largely what Mark Twain was talking about when he said,
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
So, the Roaming Parkers have set out to get kidnapped by aliens more frequently, and we’d love to have yall join us!
